Like Biba and Boba or Lupa and Pupa, these two were born to be together. Pitchfork recently released a podcast on the topic, one of the thoughts of which is that songs written directly about cannabis are, on average, musically worse than songs that are pleasant to smoke weed to. Arguing about musical tastes is not comme il faut, but the similarities of the two industries are worth pondering
Branding and marketing above all. Are the most commercially successful artists always the most talented writers? I can’t confirm from personal experience, but investors have been said to choose cannabis startups not based on tastings
The underground and the mainstream go hand in hand. But, at the same time, the higher up the ladder of success, the greater the distance between the industry and the culture
Finally, both industries are constantly in search of innovations and original stuff. To achieve this, music producers collaborate, and large cannabis producers enter into partnerships with small and independent ones
A great example of the intersection of two industries is the company Cookies. The founder is rapper Berner, a signee of Taylor Gang Entertainment, Wiz Khalifa’s label. Cookies allows small producers to sell their products through their network — is it different from a music label? At the same time, Berner advertises his own company in music videos and on merch. And on his YouTube, a series is released dedicated to marijuana culture in different countries of the world
There is one more similarity for the finale. Surprisingly, releasing music can become as illegal as distributing marijuana
